A group of Leeds United supporters have been discussing their former Brazilian midfielder Adryan after Phil Hay shared a piece he and Jack Lang wrote regarding the player for The Athletic.
The now 25-year-old arrived at Elland Road from Flamengo on loan in 2014 and his Whites career was to last approximately ten months (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). The former flop has since had spells with Nantes, Kayserispor and currently plays his football for Avai FC, to whom he’s on loan from FC Sion, in the Brazilian second tier.
Once nicknamed the ‘new Zico’, The Athletic’s piece claims that there was an ‘impossible weight of expectation he was never likely to cope with’. So, what have the Leeds fans had to say regarding the player in response to the post?
This boy had so much potential.

Lacked bravery, I remember a open goal header that he bottled as the keeper would have collided with him

In this bielsa team he’d of carved this league up. He came at a bad time & a bad team!

To be fair, he never got a run of games. In that team, at the time, he should have been the central player in the team that everything went through with everyone else working hard to accommodate him.

Do you think Adryan could have been a success at Leeds given more time?
Yes
No
Thought Adryan was a good player with lots of potential, would probably have done bits under a Bielsa type character but never really looked like he wanted to be here.

Remembering him having a decent game at Blackburn showed glimpses but that dive at home against millwall I think it was when he did that double pile was an embarrassment

What do we think?
Based on the above responses, it is clear that some fans believe he had the potential to be a success but there appear to be question marks around the player’s attitude and the way he applied himself during his time at Leeds. Judging by the way his career has gone since, in our view, the club should have no regrets regarding the fact they never kept hold of him.
