Sheffield Wednesday-focused journalist Dom Howson recently posted a tweet which shares a link to an article that was recently published by Yorkshire Live which discusses some of the Owls’ academy players “who could save the club millions in the transfer market” this summer.

This report from Yorkshire Live states that Wednesday are looking “increasingly unlikely” to spend big in the upcoming summer transfer window, following the current viral outbreak which has had “a crippling effect on football’s finances.”

The article then goes on to discuss Alex Hunt, Josh Dawodu, Liam Shaw, Conor Grant, and Ben Hughes as players who could potentially make the step up to the Owls’ first-team next season. This may lessen the need for the club to spend big money in the transfer window this summer. All five of these players are currently members of Wednesday’s Under-23 squad, as per the club’s official website

Owls fans have been sharing some mixed reactions in response to Howson’s tweet sharing this report. Read the reactions of some Owls fans to this report in the tweets below.

To kick off this quiz on 2019/20 EFL Championship kits, can you name which team this green and yellow kit belongs to?

Do you think these youth academy players would improve Wednesday's squad?

YES, THEY ARE SOME GOOD PLAYERS

NO, THEY ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

NO, THEY ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

While some Owls fans reacted positively to the idea of these youth academy players moving to the first-team next season, other Wednesday supporters were less enthusiastic.

What do we think?

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, 17 players who are currently members of Sheffield Wednesday’s squad are set to see their time at the club come to an end this summer. With that in mind, as well as the potential financial difficulties which clubs could suffer as a result of the current viral outbreak, the Owls may well have to promote some of their youth academy players to the first-team next season.
