A lot of Leeds United fans have replied to a tweet from Phil Hay about former Leeds man Roque Junior.
The Athletic’s LUFC reporter tweeted out the piece written by colleague Jack Lang about the former Brazilian international who spent the first half of the 2003/04 season at Elland Road.
Was Roque Junior one of the worst players Leeds have ever had?
Yes, he was dreadful
No, others have been worse
Junior made six appearances for the Whites, during which he scored two goals in a game against Manchester United, but apart from that, his time at Leeds wasn’t pretty.
Junior’s Premier League record for Leeds was played five, lost five, while conceding 20 goals – not exactly stellar numbers.
Certainly, these Leeds fans do not have fond memories of Junior.
He was a World Cup winner who looked like a competition winner at Leeds United.
The tale of Roque Junior – a bizarre signing which sometimes seems like a figment of your imagination.

Some Whites fans, though, point out that he was not the only player who struggled for Leeds in that season.
Great article. Always felt sorry for the chap during games. Just looked lost at Leeds. Suppose everyone did back then.

I cleary remember when he came on board in 2003.. looked all at sea with glimpses of quality touches.. that squad was a disaster in waiting.. ragtag loanees, established Leeds players waiting to get sold.. all could have been managed so much better.

It all fell apart around him in fairness

What do we think?
Junior made 50 appearances for his country and also won the World Cup in 2002, making six appearances for Brazil at the tournament.
However, in his loan spell with the Whites, he struggled to replicate that sort of form.
Nevertheless, this is an interesting piece by Lang, and well worth a read for Leeds fans.
