These Leeds United fans would like the club to aim for Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp this window.

The alleged transfer rumour started after an article from the Yorkshire Evening Post, stated this when talking about Leeds’ potential transfer plans: “Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp is one of the options being considered.”

Sharp is now 33-years-old and has currently played 11 matches in the Premier League this season, however, the Englishman has only scored once in the league for his current club Sheffield United which he also captains.

This rumour was later relayed to these Leeds United fans via Graham Smyth on Twitter and here’s what the Peacocks fans had to say about the Sharp interest:

Is Billy Sharp better than Patrick Bamford?

Yes, he's amazing!

Yes, he's amazing!

No, he's overrated!

No, he's overrated!

Sharp started his career at Sheffield United but was later sold to Doncaster Rovers in 2010 for £1.24m, however, the 33-year-old didn’t stay at Doncaster long, with Southampton buying the Englishman for £1.94m in 2012.

During his time at Southampton, Sharp was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest, Reading and Doncaster. The 33-year-old was then later sold on to Leeds United for just £270k in August 2014, but yet again Sharp didn’t stay long, rejoining his current club Sheffield United for a fee of £635k in July 2015.

One fan mentioned that they remembered the performance the veteran put in against them last season, with Sheffield United’s victory over Leeds back in March 2019. As reported in Sky Sports’ match report, Sharp was a constant threat and appeared to put Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper under pressure a number of times, with his stats by WhoScored hinting at a solid performance – one shot, two key passes and winning three fouls.

What Do We Think?

Sharp probably wouldn’t mind playing a backup role behind Patrick Bamford, with the Englishman being 33-years-old he would likely enjoy the break. Although his age does pose a question as to whether he would be fit enough to play under Marcelo Bielsa, however with Sharp playing 11 times in the Premier League this season, he can hardly be considered unfit.

If Leeds know Sharp would be happy to play in a backup role, then they should definitely go and sign him. The 33-year-old brings lots of experience to the side, playing for eight different clubs in his career, so he could be a strong leader for the dressing room.
