Scottish giants Celtic are now set to open talks with Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok this week to sign their striker Patryk Klimala in the ongoing January transfer window, as per FootballInsider247.

The report states that Klimala has emerged as a transfer target for the Hoops in recent weeks and the club sees him as a potential competitor for first-choice striker Odsonne Edouard in the second half of the campaign.

It is said that a fee of around £5million will be enough to convince Jagiellonia Bialystok to sell their striker, as they are keen on cashing on their prized asset this very month. It is highly likely that the player is allowed to leave the club in January.

Good back-up option?

Klimala is currently 22 and while he is a striker by trade, he can also be a useful player on the right-wing for the club. He is a product of the Legia Warsaw youth academy and joined Jagiellonia in the summer of 2016.

So far this season, the striker has played 18 times in all competitions for this club. He has found the back of the net a total of seven times, while racking up a good tally of three assists as well. Last year wasn’t as productive for him even though he played as a striker, scoring just four times in 29 appearances in all competitions.

He is a Poland Under-21s international. In five appearances for the club, he has found the back of the net twice for the nation.

TIF Tactics

Celtic do need a second-choice striker. Leigh Griffiths and Lewis Morgan are options, but they haven’t been scoring enough to play behind Edouard regularly. Griffiths has scored three times in all competitions, failing to score even once since his return from injury. Morgan has scored only twice in all competitions himself.

Klimala is young and may not demand regular first-choice football. At the age of 21, he would be happy to play behind Edouard and his goalscoring record shows that he can get a good amount of goals for the club. And for a low fee, he will be a decent option.
