Leeds United defender Liam Cooper instantly took to Twitter after the club confirmed manager Marcelo Bielsa was staying to share his delight at the news.

Leeds confirmed on Tuesday, via their official website, that chairman Andrea Radrizzani had officially exercised the option to extend Bielsa’s contract for a second season.

Shortly after the news was revealed, Cooper sent a nine-word tweet to share how important the news was that Bielsa was going nowhere.

“Some news that is for us as a club,” wrote Cooper via his verified Twitter account.

OPINION

Cooper’s tweet is probably a true reflection of how most Leeds fans are feeling after learning that Bielsa is staying. The experienced manager transformed Leeds’ fortunes after arriving last summer, and while it didn’t end in the club’s return to the Premier League, it’s clear to see how positive his presence at the club has proven to be. Bielsa has improved many of Leeds’ players for the better, see Cooper for more information, and he would have been an near-impossible act to follow if Leeds had needed to replace him. With Bielsa staying at Elland Road, Leeds have some much-needed stability and a fantastic foundation in order to push on for promotion next season. Also given that Bielsa is happy to stay, surely that means Leeds have promised to give him everything he needs to win promotion, as he surely wouldn’t have agreed to stay if they hadn’t. So with that in mind perhaps Leeds fans should start preparing to see their club have a busy summer in the transfer market.
