Leeds United attacker Patrick Bamford thanked fans for their support this season and shared he thought the Whites would come back stronger after their 4-2 loss to Derby County.

The Leeds forward sent supporters a message to admit losing to Derby in the play-offs wasn’t the ending the club was dreaming of but that the players had learnt vital lessons this season, which would help them in their 2019/20 campaign.

“It wasn’t the ending we all dreamed of, but we have set standards and learnt a lot that will only make us stronger next year,” said Bamford on his personal Instagram account.

“Thank you for your continued support, after having missed 2/3 of this season with the knee injury I sustained, I’m already looking forward to next season and excited to see what we can achieve.”

Bamford’s heartfelt message on Instagram aside from being liked by thousands of supporters saw teammate Kemar Roofe respond, via his Instagram account, to show his support, as the striker commented with a black heart.

OPINION

No one is going to argue with Bamford that losing to Derby in the play-offs wasn’t the fairytale ending Leeds fans wanted, but they may question his view on it making the club stronger. Promotion to the Premier League seemed to be within Leeds’ reach for the majority of this season, yet they are once again set to play their football in the Championship. While Leeds’ squad can learn lessons from their heartbreak it’s unclear whether they’d be stronger for missing out on promotion this season, as who knows what will happen in the summer. Several of Leeds players wowed this season and there will no doubt be some that other clubs will attempt to poach, and who knows they maybe tempted to jump ship. Bamford’s comments are what you expect though, and it’s just a case of him and his teammates proving the forward right to be optimistic. The former Middlesbrough striker personally has some making up to do next season as he was awful in the play-off clash with Derby on Wednesday.
