Danny Murphy has launched an attack on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford after his role led to the sending off of Aston Villa attacker Anwar El-Ghazi on Sunday afternoon.

Bamford appeared to dive in the aftermath of the controversial opening goal at Elland Road and Aston Villa have revealed they will appeal the decision.

Speaking on talkSPORT (Monday, April 29th, 11:30) he said: “It’s nothing short of ludicrous, the whole thing is disgusting, there is no excuse for what he did”.

The former Liverpool midfielder went on to add: “It shows that academic intelligence means nothing. It’s a senseless dive that needs addressing”.

It has been reported that Aston Villa also want retrospective action for the Leeds Striker who they believe deceived the referee in order to gain an advantage.

OPINION

Patrick Bamford clearly dived in the aftermath of the Leeds goal which led to the dismissal of Anwar El-Ghazi. A two game ban is a potential decision which could effect Leeds’ play-off campaign before it has even begun. Danny Murphy was very passionate in his rant over the incident and was right in his verdict that it needs addressing. Earlier in the Championship season, Dwight Gayle was handed a ban after he admitted that he dived to win a penalty to earn West Brom a draw against Nottingham Forest. The one thing that could save Patrick Bamford is that his role in the incident did not influence the result of the game as Leeds allowed Aston Villa to equalise after the brawl. Regardless of this, the incident would justify a two game ban as Bamford was clearly not touched and it will be seen as an effort to try and deceive the referee. Poor form from the striker and a decision which could influence their playoff campaign.
