Chris Sutton claimed that Tottenham wouldn’t miss Harry Kane when facing Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The outspoken pundit shared that he thought Spurs were better without Kane after Ian Wright argued that the forward was a noticeable miss as without him and Heung-min Son it was a completely different prospect to be facing Ajax.

“Of course you’re going to be happy at getting Ajax when you look at everyone that’s left, but at same time you’re going to think aw man, as if Harry Kane was fit…he won’t be there, and Son is not there, it changing the game with those two not there,” said Wright on BBC Radio 5 Live (Monday April 28th, 19:18).

Sutton replied: “They’re better without Harry Kane.”

This prompted Wright to notably sigh and mutter something under his breath in order to show he disagreed.

OPINION

Wright appeared to disagree with Sutton’s claim about Kane and it’s easy to see why. The former Arsenal player was highlighting how important the attacker was for Spurs only for Sutton to cut him off. Yet how can a team be better without a player of Kane’s quality? The 25-year-old has scored 24 goals in 39 outings and even racked up six assists. Other teams can only dream of having a prolific striker like Kane on their books so surely Spurs are weaker whenever he unavailable due to injury. While it’s true Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown they’re able to cope without their superstar player, it doesn’t mean they’re better without him. Son and Christian Eriksen do have a tendency to step up to make Kane’s absence irrelevant when he is stuck on the sidelines, but when playing alongside him; the attack-minded pair could do even more damage. It’s just a coincidence that when Kane returned from injury earlier this season, that the likes of Son saw their form dip.
