Jack Clarke will be back in training with his Leeds United team-mates on Monday, according to his agent Ian Harte.

The former Leeds defender took to his personal Twitter account on Friday evening to reveal that the stricken winger, 18, is set to return to the first-team fold in two days’ time.

Clarke was rushed to hospital after falling ill during the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough last month.

Referee Darren England was forced to suspend the game temporarily as the youngster received treatment on the Leeds bench before being taken to the dressing room and then hospital for further inspection.

OPINION

The return of Clarke is great news for Leeds and the player after a four-match absence. Credit to the club for giving the player plenty of time to fully convalesce from his Riverside scare, and take no chances despite the team’s situation. He had been sorely missed by the promotion chasers up until their Friday night demolition of West Brom. His mobility, pace and technical quality from out wide gives the team a different dimension, and it is a mark of the impact made since he was fast-tracked into the senior side in the autumn that he was the subject of strong Premier League interest in the January window. Leeds rejected a number of bids for one of their prize assets and there has been talk of Tottenham mounting a buy-to-loan summer swoop. That is for another day. For now, it is a huge boost to Leeds’ promotion hopes that the exciting youngster is deemed fit to return to training and get his career back on track.
