Marcelo Bielsa raved about Pablo Hernandez following his latest masterclass in Leeds United’s 3-0 Championship win over Reading on Tuesday night.

The Spanish attacking midfielder scored twice as United secured victory at the Madejski Stadium and climbed back to the top of the division, ahead of Norwich City.

Manager Bielsa praised Hernandez for his “great game” and explained, as quoted by YEP journalist Phil Hay, that the 33-year-old does things “you can’t teach”.

OPINION

The way things are going, Hernandez isn’t just going to hold on to the Leeds player of the year award he won last season, he’s going to walk off with the Championship player of the year, too. Ryan Sessegnon won it for spearheading Fulham’s promotion in the last campaign, and Hernandez could be another wide player about to do exactly the same. The Spanish maestro is at the opposite stage of his career to left-winger Sessegnon, but his effectiveness is unquestionable. He was impressive enough in the first half of the season, but has been exceptional of late, particularly in the brilliant team performances against Reading and West Brom that showcased everything that makes Bielsa’s side so special. Hernandez has now scored 10 league goals this season and weighed in with 11 assists, a number matched in the Championship this season only by Brentford’s Said Benrahma. The numbers are great, the player himself even greater.
