Elland Road would almost certainly erupt if Leeds United succeed in their bid to sign Aaron Lennon at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old may be past his blistering best but he has demonstrated this campaign he still has a huge amount to offer at Premier League level.

Lennon would be an exciting and potent signing for Leeds, whether they succeed in returning to the top flight or start next season once again in the Championship.

According to the Sun, Marcelo Bielsa is “compiling his background checks” on the former Leeds winger as he plots a move at the end of the season for the Burnley wide ace.

The Argentine will not be able to see Lennon personally in action for some time as he is sidelined with a knee injury he sustained in December.

Up until that point, the former Tottenham and Everton man, capped 21 times by England, was a mainstay of Sean Dyche’s starting XI after putting the mental health issues he had suffered at Goodison Park behind him.

Lennon does not turn 32 until April and the player who made his Leeds debut aged 16 before quitting for Spurs two years later is still a force.

He is remarkably quick for a player in his 30s and, combined with his low centre of gravity and directness, can carry the ball forward, pull defenders and open up space for teammates.

Leeds are crying out for a speed machine and Lennon could be a potent player for them.
