OPINION
Luke Ayling has been well below par since returning in December ahead of schedule from a serious knee injury that sidelined him for two months. He has kept his place in the Leeds United starting XI – just about – but doubts about his calibre were aired on social media once again during and after the team’s 2-1 Championship triumph against Swansea City on Wednesday night. What should have been a comprehensive victory for the home side following a dominant display that had Swans manager Graham Potter drooling over United’s promotion chances afterwards, once again become unnecessarily nervy late on after Ayling’s clumsy foul on Joel Asoro gave the visitors hope with a penalty converted by Oli McBurnie. Ayling is an accident waiting to happen at the back, even though his performance was actually better than it had been at Middlesbrough at the weekend, and in previous matches. Leeds need their senior players to stand up to be counted, and not make the sloppy mistakes that could ruin their automatic promotion hopes.

I love Ayling, but thought he was off the mark entirely tonight again, not as bad as Norwich but he was our weakest link so many times tonight I thought. He will find his way back. It’s just a wobble I recon

Watch it back full 90. He had it easy tonight, I like Ayling he has bags of ability but lately he’s been below par, just been sloppy and not as quick. One thing he done really well tonight was getting beyond and into space past there Left back but our final ball is killing us atm

I'd like to say Ayling had a better game, but he didn't. It's not for a want of trying with him, but he's looked so clumsy lately. #LUFC
