The January window may have long shut, but recruitment staff of the leading clubs are already concentrating firmly on bringing in new players in the summer window. Leeds United already appear to have one deal over the line amid a report in the Scottish Sun they have clinched the signing of Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry. The newspaper claim terms have been agreed between the two clubs for an initial £150,000 fee rising to a potential £400,000 and that the 16-year-old was in Yorkshire this week to finalise the contract. What really stands out about this deal, and suggests that McKinstry could be something special, is that Leeds have fought off interest from Southampton to land the Scotland youth international. United fans are looking forward to the youngster joining a youth set-up that has flourished this season. The club’s age-group sides top their leagues and Marcelo Bielsa has leant heavily on the academy to fill his senior squad during their promotion challenge. Ambitious youngsters know they can get plenty of opportunities at Leeds.
