Kemar Roofe will undergo scans on a knee injury on Monday as Leeds United sweat over the fitness of their top goalscorer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim Roofe suffered a problem in last Wednesday’s Championship win against Swansea City and the club are sufficiently concerned to schedule detailed assessments at the start of the coming week.

Roofe was pictured in a knee brace in Leeds city centre on Saturday to spark fears he could be facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

OPINION

Along with Pablo Hernandez, Kalvin Phillips and Pontus Jansson, Roofe has been one of the four outstanding players for United this season as they attempt to end their 15-year spell in the lower league doldrums. Transformed into a central striker on a permanent basis, the 26-year-old has scored 14 league goals and taken to his new role like he was born for it. Roofe has been pushed into a deeper attacking midfield role in the last two games following the return to full fitness of Patrick Bamford. It would be ironic if Roofe were to now be sidelined with a knee problem just when Bamford had fully recovered from two separate ligament injuries. Marcelo Bielsa and his staff must be wondering whether they have upset someone, given the astonishingly lengthy casualty list this season, which Hay reveals has extended to 45 different injuries to senior players. That is a remarkable number, and suggests the intense methods of Bielsa are having a major effect on injuries.
