Former Leeds United midfielder Andy Couzens has issued his reaction to the Whites’ 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Leeds were resigned to their fifth defeat of the Championship season after a brace from Jack Colback and goals from Daryl Murphy and Ben Osborn, but Jack Clarke and Ezgjan Alioski managed to spare the visitors’ blushes slightly with efforts of their own.

He praised how his former club were able to create a number of goal scoring opportunities despite being reduced to ten men following the sending off for Kalvin Phillips.

“Not the result we wanted but we made enough chances to win the game even with ten men!! Now time for the lads to rest and get ready for the next Leauge (sic) game against Darby (sic) few changes for the FA cup for me as well and let’s not forget we are still top of the league,” he said via his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Couzens may be slightly biased in his verdict, as this definitely was not the most convincing Leeds performance we have seen this season. We may have seen a little bit of fight in the second half because of the goals from Clarke and Alioski, but overall, the display from everyone was pretty poor. The only decent player in the first half – Jack Harrison – was taken off, which was a rare bad decision from manager Marcelo Bielsa. He usually gets it spot on, but on New Year’s Day, he got it dreadfully wrong. Their promotion bid – as well as their bid to win the Championship title – is slowly slipping from their grasp, and the longer they continue to play in this way, it will be gone in an instant. Yes, they did manage to score two goals with one player missing – but they seriously need to get their act together for their next fixture.
