Vinnie Jones shared that he thought the spy scandal surrounding Leeds United seemed silly to him and called it a load of rubbish after heaping praise on their recent win over Derby County.

The former Whites midfielder called the 2-0 win over Derby a magnificent result before dismissing all the talk regarding a Leeds spy being used ahead of the match.

Jones then remarked on Leeds’ promotion hopes with them currently sat top of the Championship table and shared that it seemed to be all panning out.

“Of course the magnificent result was Leeds, y’know bit of controversy there but I mean what a load of rubbish that is if you can’t go watch a team that is, I mean we used to have people watch training sessions all the time, when I first went to Leeds we had a 1000 spectators watching us train so how can you say that it’s a spying mission?” said Jones on Alan Brazil’s Sport Breakfast on talkSPORT (Monday January 14th, 6:39am).

“I mean it’s silly to me.

“Yeah (on flying high in Championship) and when we won it 89, erm it was the same thing, it was Leeds – Sheffield United neck and neck all the way and whether your top one week or second one week looking up, it looks like it’s panning out for that.”

OPINION

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa confessed, as reported on by the BBC that there was someone from the club at Derby’s training ground on Thursday ahead of the two side’s clashing on Friday. Yet the whole saga has been blown out of proportion with loads of pundits weighing in on both side’s of the argument. However it’s clear what side of the debate Jones falls on as he clearly is mystified that so much fuss was made about a training session being watched. Jones highlights the fact loads of spectators used to be at Leeds training club when he was with them and that it’s not even an issue that people were seeing the players in that environment. The retired footballer’s remarks make complete sense and you feel loads of Leeds fans will be agreement with him. Whites supporters will also no doubt wholeheartedly agree with Jones’ comments about the club’s promotion and love the fact he compared it to the 1989-90 season.
