Leeds United have tabled an astonishing bid worth £10million for Swansea City winger Daniel Jamies, according to the Sun.

The national newspaper claim the Yorkshire giants have offered £6million in cash for the 21-year-old plus performance-related add-ons of £4million.

The Sun report Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa regards James as capable of providing a “missing link” to his automatic promotion-chasing side

OPINION

Given that this time last week it was being reported Leeds were hoping to pay £3million for James, this latest report – if it is spot-on – suggests Swansea are brilliant negotiators, or United were deluding themselves if they felt they could sign one of the Championship’s most exciting young players for a relatively meagre price. James is out of contract in the summer of 2020, which, combined with Swansea’s need to raise funds through player sales, makes them very vulnerable to losing one of their prize assets. Is £6million plus £4million of add-ons – one of which is reportedly based on United securing promotion to the Premier League – good value for a player who has been in and out of the Swansea side this season. Yes. And, no. James has the kind of pace that can leave defenders nervous wrecks and, as a full Wales international who is 21 and bursting with promise, he could provide real cutting edge to Leeds’ attack. That said, he has scored just one goal for Swansea this season, supplemented by four assists. His value is based on his potential rather than achievements.
