It has been a shattering week for Leeds United fans following a memorable opening half of the campaign.

Sunday’s FA Cup elimination at the hands of QPR was the club’s third consecutive defeat and followed in the wake of the baffling loan exit of their most gifted player, Samuel Saiz.

Marcelo Bielsa has downplayed the prospect of using the transfer market to right the wrongs of recent matches, and reinforce the squad for the second half of the campaign.

But Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay has delivered an exciting Leeds transfer update that will surely give the entire fanbase goosebumps.

The reliable journalist explained in a Twitter exchange with a supporter over the weekend that United are hot on the heels of Switzerland international Steven Zuber and it is a deal that “could be done”.

He explained Hoffenheim could be willing to grant the exit of the 27-year-old, a left-sided midfielder of some repute.

Zuber is exactly the kind of player Leeds need.

He has 21 international caps, which have yielded five goals, and has widespread experience in the Bundesliga as well as the Swiss and Russian leagues.

With Leeds’ wide men blowing hot and cold since Pablo Hernandez was pushed inside to the number 10 role following Saiz’s exit, more penetration is needed from out wide.

Zuber would be just the man to provide it, and he could make a big impact if a deal can be agreed this month.

It is certainly heartening for supporters that United are looking to get it done.
