Blackburn Rovers have confirmed they are among the clubs who have written to the EFL demanding a full investigation into Marcelo Bielsa and the ‘Spygate’ controversy, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning that he has learned that Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest have also “put their names” to the collective letter.

Eleven Championship clubs – Norwich City and Millwall have previously been named – are pressing the EFL for an extensive inquiry into the spy storm after Bielsa admitted he had sent staff to secretly watch every team in the division train this season.

OPINION

It’s fair to say Leeds’ opponents are deeply unhappy. If Bielsa thought his now infamous PowerPoint presentation would quell the spy controversy, he might need to think again. His honest admission about how far he has gone to analyse opponents, stretching to spying on every side United have played this season, appears to have provided an open door for rivals to bang down. Leeds fans will be particularly irritated by the involvement of Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, two clubs who have spent vast sums to push for promotion this season but have been defeated by the Yorkshire giants and lag behind them, by seven and 15 points respectively, in the race for a top-two finish. This should certainly foster a siege mentality at Thorp Arch, where the Leeds players might feel even further motivated to end the club’s 15-year search for Premier League football.
