The possibility of Leeds United dipping into the transfer market to replace exit-bound Samuel Saiz has not been ruled out by a Yorkshire Evening Post journalist.

Joe Urquhart reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday evening in an exchange with a Leeds fan that he is “not sure” whether the club intend to make a move to find a successor to Saiz.

The journalist claimed the Championship promotion hopefuls have been “caught off guard” by the Spaniard’s desire for an immediate return to Spain and says it is a “big talking point” at the club ahead of Saturday’s league fixture against Bolton Wanderers.

OPINION

There is immense frustration, although not quite outright dismay and frothing anger, among United fans that Saiz is about to up sticks and head back to Spain midway through the club’s campaign to secure automatic promotion. Just when everything was going so swimmingly, the playmaker with magic in his boots has been given the green light by the Leeds hierarchy to join Getafe on an initial loan that could become a permanent deal in the summer. The terms of the arrangement has baffled supporters, who are wondering why on earth the hierarchy have sanctioned a temporary exit for a player surely worth at least double the £3million paid for him in the summer of 2017. With Izzy Brown on his way back from a serious knee injury and another Chelsea attacking midfielder loanee, Lewis Baker, also on the books, don’t bet against Marcelo Bielsa shrugging his shoulders and batting away calls for him to use the transfer window to replace one of the club’s most gifted players.
