Leeds United may redouble their efforts to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman as they face losing out on Burnley ace Tom Heaton, according to Leeds Live.

The React site claim the Yorkshire giants could make a second attempt to land the England Under-21 international on loan in January amid the prospect of another keeper target Heaton heading to rivals Aston Villa.

Leeds Live cite reports stating United have already had a bid for Woodman rejected by Newcastle but their need for a new goalkeeper could bring them back to the negotiating table.

Good move for Leeds?

Definitely. The 6ft 2in ace (Transfermarkt) is a Premier League goalkeeper of the future. He does not have Heaton’s experience or pedigree, but Marcelo Bielsa is very comfortable working with and developing rising stars rather than established ones. Woodman has represented England at every level from Under-16 to Under-21 and has leapfrogged proven performer Rob Elliot in the goalkeeper pecking order at United following Karl Darlow’s injury. Woodman has showed what he can do in previous loan spells and he is a keeper capable of pushing Bailey Peacock-Farrell hard for the number one spot.

Likely to happen?

Plenty of clubs are keen on signing Woodman, who is highly regarded for his performances at youth-team level as well as for various senior stints out on loan. Much depends on the seriousness of the injury to Darlow, as the 21-year-old is currently the deputy for established first choice Martin Dubravka.
