QPR defender Toni Leistner is set to be in hot water with the Football Association after questioning the referee on Sunday night in the wake of his team’s 2-1 defeat at Leeds United, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent claimed “FA charge incoming” after Leistner tweeted, “Hard to play against a tough team and the *** referee.”

Hay’s claim followed a Twitter exchange  between the giant QPR centre-back, who stands at 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt) and his Saturday opponent Pontus Jansson who joked that a Leeds player who used those words “might be in prison”.

OPINION

Jansson just can’t help himself, can he? The giant centre-back has already been gagged by the Leeds communication team after incurring a one-match suspension earlier in the season for accusing a referee of “robbery” in a purchase interview immediately after a Leeds match. Leistner’s comment on social media is likely to alert the Football Association, even if it’s not quite as frothing-at-the-mouth or as controversial as Jansson’ s rant a few months back. While the Swede’s riposte is a joke rather than a serious condemnation of officialdom, he should know better. You can imagine Leeds PR team tearing their hair out at the plain-speaking Jansson. He says it as he sees it, but it is best for himself and the team who rely on him so much that he steers clear of controversy, whether in broadcast interviews or while idling away hours on social media. It’s just not worth it.
