Aston Villa left-back Neil Taylor is an injury doubt for their clash against Stoke this weekend, according to the Birmingham Mail

The regional newspaper report that the Wales international flyer is doubtful to play against the Potters after being forced off the pitch early in the second half during their 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Friday.

The Birmingham Mail claim that first-team mainstay Taylor has suffered a hamstring injury which is likely to put him out of the clash at Villa Park on Saturday.

It is said that star attacker Jack Grealish is another injury concern for Villa, with the 23-year-old waiting to hear news on the extent of the problem.

OPINION

This is an unwanted blow for Villa boss Dean Smith, but not one which is totally devastating. Taylor is the only recognised left-back in the squad at the moment, but Alan Hutton has played in that position on several occasions this season. The Scotland international is obviously not as effective on the other flank, but he can still do a job against the Potters if need be. A bigger concern for Smith will be star man Jack Grealish, who is waiting to find out the severity of his injury. The attacking midfielder also sustained his issue against West Brom, and is still waiting to hear how serious the problem is. Should Grealish be missing against Stoke then Smith will be missing one of his most important players, and he will have a hard time replacing his influence going forward. However, with players like Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie stepping up in recent weeks, Villa still have a big chance at three points against Stoke.
