Leeds fans were left scratching their heads after manager Marcelo Bielsa said that he didn’t expect to make any signings in January.

Bielsa was talking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the QPR game on Saturday.

And, despite the injury list growing at Elland Road, and the very real prospect of having to play two Under-23 players in the Championship game on Saturday, Bielsa repeated his mantra that he’s happy with his squad.

However, despite these comments, Phil Hay, senior reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Post, is convinced that they will bring at least a goalkeeper to the club in January.

OPINION

You’ve got to love Bielsa. The faith he has in his squad and the Under-23s is refreshing. You hear other managers constantly banging on about injuries and how it’s affecting their form, but not Bielsa. Despite an injury list that would make other managers weep, Bielsa is confident that the training his squad and reserves are getting will make them better than any player he could bring in. That’s called having faith in your own abilities as a coach and it’s vindicated by the position that Leeds find themselves in – four points clear of West Brom in third. However, there is one potential issue. If the injury list gets even bigger there could be problems. Bielsa is ultimately saying that he hopes that’s not going to happen and Leeds fans will be hoping nothing serious happens to any of their other big stars. The good news is that Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown are back ahead of schedule. That’s like two new signings right there. And Phil Hay is convinced that Leeds will sign a new goalkeeper at the very least in January. It sounds like that will be as cover for Peacock-Farrell though.
