QPR owner Tony Fernandes has slammed Kalvin Phillips on Twitter for the foul that badly injured midfielder Geoff Cameron and left him facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Championship chief took to his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon to question why officials have failed to take retrospective action against Phillips for the challenge on Cameron in Leeds United’s 2-1 triumph against his London side.

Fernandes did not name the 23-year-old Leeds man but it was clear who he was talking about given Phillips was the player who “fouled Cameron badly after the whistle had gone” and he was “disappointed” in the subsequent absence of action.

OPINION

Nearly a week since Phillips ended Cameron’s participation in the Elland Road encounter on the cusp of half-time and Fernandes is clearly still seething. It is understandable given the crudeness of Phillips’ challenge, which do not reflect well on him through the prism of TV replays, and the damage sustained by the 33-year-old USA international. Fernandes’ tweet came shortly after an official update from QPR stating that Cameron is wearing a protective boot and the swelling around his ankle is such that the club are still not able to confidently predict how long his absence will be. Given that he has damaged ankle ligaments, it would be a surprise to see the on-loan Stoke midfielder back in action within the next two months, which would be a conservative time frame for his time on the sidelines. Phillips did not deliberately injure Cameron, of course, but his poor timing has had a serious knock-on effect for 14th-placed QPR.
