A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to call for goalkeeper David Stockdale to replace injured loanee Jamal Blackman in the January window.

United have been left with just one senior keeper in Bailey Peacock-Farrell after Blackman suffered a broken leg while playing for the Under-23s on Friday at Thorp Arch.

Leeds reportedly came close to sign Stockdale from Birmingham City over the summer but the plug was pulled on the deal and now many supporters are calling for the club to make a fresh swoop.

COMMENTARY:

Blackman has headed back to parent club Chelsea and is unlikely to play for Leeds again as his season-long loan comes to an early and devastating end. Many supporters are convinced the Championship promotion hopefuls need to recruit a proven keeper in January who can provide real competition to Peacock-Farrell. It’s not a deputy Leeds need, either, but a number one who has what it takes to immediately slot into their starting XI. Is Stockdale that man? He very possibly could be. United were beaten by Birmingham to his signature in the summer of 2017 and tried again to land the boyhood Leeds fan in the most recent transfer window, but their Championship rivals were not accommodating over the finances of the deal. The 6ft 3in shot-stopper (source: Transfermarkt) has subsequently been sidelined but he is too good a keeper to be playing second fiddle. This is a deal that makes total sense for Leeds following Blackman’s horror injury.
