A section of fans took to Twitter to criticise Bailey Peacock-Farrell after his performance for Northern Ireland in their goalless draw against Republic of Ireland on Thursday night.

Peacock-Farrell kept a clean sheet in the Irish derby as he continued his attempt to establish himself as the number one for his country in Dublin.

Many supporters were unimpressed with Peacock-Farrell despite him keeping out the Republic, with comments including “like a deer in headlights”.

COMMENTARY:

With four international caps now to his name and the established number one at Leeds, Peacock-Farrell has certainly had a memorable year. But the United academy product is not convincing everyone, including significant sections of the Irish and Leeds support. The 22-year-old made a huge blunder for the second West Brom goal in last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at the Hawthorns at a point in the match when his side were dominating and looking to exert some control. Peacock-Farrell hasn’t made many serious blunders this season – which is how most keepers are rated – but nor has he looked the rock-solid last line of defence that a promotion-chasing side need. With issues over his distribution and technique when dealing with long-range shots, there have been calls for the rookie to be eased out of the Leeds starting XI. That could be the best solution, as it would enable him to work on his game out of he spotlight.
