Marcelo Bielsa is not planning to be busy in the January transfer window, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim the Leeds United manager’s plan “involves making the best of the team he has” rather than taking advantage of the mid-season recruitment opening.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report it is highly likely Leeds will continue their trend of recent years of failing to make enough of the January window when it comes to signing new players.

OPINION

The noises coming out of Elland Road are that United fans should not be getting too excited about the January window. Managing director Angus Kinnear revealed at the weekend the club are looking to make an early-January goalkeeper signing following the season-ending injury to loanee Jamal Blackman. Elsewhere, it appears Bielsa is happy to trust in the players at his disposal, look forward to welcoming Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown back to action after long-term injuries, as well as Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling, and make improvements through his coaching rather than through shrewd recruitment. Leeds were actually very active in January of this year, with Adam Forshaw and Tyler Roberts both signed for deals that could eventually cost £4million, while a number of youth-team deals were also sealed, including Sam Dalby and Jordan Stevens. It appears at this stage that the United recruitment team will mainly be looking to the future in January rather than immediate impact arrivals.
