Jay-Roy Grot endured a tough introduction to English football after joining Leeds United in the summer of 2017, with the 20-year-old attacker failing to make any kind of impact for the Whites last season.

His lack of form attracted heavy criticism from the Leeds faithful, and the confidence seemed to drain more and more from Grot as the season went on.

That disastrous season led the Whites to ship the colossal attacker out on loan to VVV Venlo in the summer, where Grot has finally begun to emerge from his shell.

The youngster has now shed light on the effects of his failed season at Leeds in a revealing interview with De Limburger, with his account of the season sure to sadden many a Whites fan.

“I attracted the reactions of the fans. My game? It just did not matter anymore,” he said.

“I was a hermit, but that is not good. You start to worry too much. You need relaxation. Going out for dinner or bowling for example,” he added.

Grot further revealed that he hired a mental coach to help him get through those tough times, with the youngster now beginning to feel good about his game.

De Limburger claim that a return to Leeds is inevitable for Grot, with the winger still have three years left on his current deal at Elland Road.

And, if a return does happen for Grot, then his resurgence in form and newfound confidence is a seriously good sign for the Whites, who obviously saw something in him when they decided to sign him from NEC Nijmegen.

Grot does look like he has something about him, with his 6’4″ frame and decent pace putting him in good stead to become a dangerous prospect for any defence.

Hopefully this kind of form continues throughout the season and Leeds welcome back Grot like a new signing in the summer, with fans getting behind the talented young Dutchman.
