OPINION

Leeds United lost 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday in the Championship, and there were plenty of talking points to take away from the clash.

Danny Graham opened the scoring after just two minutes with a header and Rovers looked like they would carry that lead into the break before Mateusz Klich equalised with the final kick of the first half.

Darragh Lenihan headed Rovers back into the lead from a corner in the second half, and the Whites were unfortunately unable to fight back again.

This is Futbol have picked out three things we learned about Leeds v Blackburn below.

Dallas is not good enough to start

The decision to play Stuart Dallas at right-back drew a lot of criticism from fans before the game, and that was proved to be right by his performance on Saturday. The Northern Ireland international was poor against Blackburn and looked totally out of place at right-back. His positioning was off on multiple occasions and his lack of experience in defence really showed as Rovers made hay down his flank. It is however slowly becoming obvious that Dallas lacks a lot of quality in general, and while his work-rate makes up for that, he is simply not good enough to be starting for Leeds if they want to win the title this season. Bielsa must axe the 6ft ace as soon as possible after this hopeless display [Transfermarkt].

Roofe needs to play centrally

One of the more surprising selection decisions was to keep youngster Tyler Roberts in the team and play senior star Kemar Roofe on the flank. The two players ended up switching positions throughout the game, but while the idea was understandable in many ways, it simply did not work out. Roofe is far more effective centrally, just as he showed in netting four goals in six games before his injury. He is not a natural winger despite his decent pace, and his talents are simply wasted in that area. Bielsa must sack off any ideas of this becoming a regular thing and place Roofe up front.

Set-pieces the downfall

Leeds conceded two goals on Saturday, and both came from corners. To lose a game in such a manner is so disappointing, and that will be an area of huge concern for Marcelo Bielsa moving forward. The Argentine will no doubt have his players drilling their set-piece defence this week after such a poor display, and hopefully things can improve from here on in. If Leeds want to win promotion this season then they simply cannot afford to be conceding such simple goals, especially not two in one game.
