Image for Hernandez reveals comeback plans on Instagram

Pablo Hernandez has revealed on Instagram he is closing in on his Leeds United comeback after nearly two months on the sidelines.

The Spanish attacking midfielder, 33, updated his Instagram story on Wednesday with the caption “ready” accompanied by an image of the bottom of his leg, which showed him taking a stride forward with his football boot on.

The image is likely to have come from Leeds’ warm-up session in training that day, as Hernandez is wearing sports socks rather than football socks and shin pads.

OPINION

It is brilliant news for Leeds that Hernandez feels he’s ready to make his comeback against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday after nearly eight weeks on the sidelines. The United 2017-18 player of the year is one of the outstanding footballers at the club and it is no coincidence that his side have been less dynamic and effective during his absence. Leeds have just about coped without Hernandez, who has missed the last seven league matches, and Kemar Roofe, who has missed the last six, but they need them fit and firing to nail down an automatic promotion spot. The big decision now for Marcelo Bielsa is whether he throws Hernandez straight back into the fray without any reserve or development team minutes – Hernandez did not make the Under-23s team last Friday alongside comeback kids Roofe and Gaetano Berardi – or gradually introduces him from the substitute’s bench in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
