A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to criticise ex-player Kyle Bartley for his performance for West Brom on Friday night.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes for Darren Moore’s side in a three-man back line as they drew 1-1 against Birmingham City at St Andrews.

Many Leeds fans watched the televised clash and pointed out that Bartley is “half the player he was for us” and their club had “dodged a bullet” in not signing him.

COMMENTARY:

Bartley is fondly remembered by virtually every Leeds supporter for his outstanding performances while on loan from Swansea City in 2016-17. The centre-back was a colossal presence alongside Pontus Jansson at the back as United pushed hard for promotion under ex-boss Garry Monk only to fall by the wayside late on. You had to look far and wide to far a Leeds fan who did not urge the club to re-sign him in the last two summer windows and there was genuine delight when the Yorkshire Evening Post reported in April that the club were in talks to land him permanently after making him their top summer target. There was then anger and frustration when United were beaten to the punch by Championship rivals West Brom, who eventually signed Bartley for £4million (source: Express and Star). The giant defender has had a mixed start to his Baggies career despite being an ever-present in their seven league matches to date. Leeds fans are far from unhappy at that.
