Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to congratulate coach Darren Arnott after he revealed he has accepted an offer to join the club’s Under-23s backroom staff.

Arnott will work under the age-group team’s manager Carlos Corberan as he heads to Elland Road for a second spell after a year spent in Spain working for Spanish Tercera Division side Atletico Astorga.

COMMENTARY:

There is widespread and genuine delight among Leeds fans at the return of Arnott after a year spent honing his coaching skills in Spain. The 31-year-old was encouraged by United director and Aspire academy chief Ivan Bravo to cut his teeth on the Continent before heading back to Thorp Arch with fresh ideas and plans. That experience should prove invaluable for the Under-23s, who have been transformed since Carlos Corberan took over last year following considerable investment in the youth-team squad by Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta. It is starting to pay dividends. Academy products Jamie Shackleton, the 18-year-old central midfielder, and Tom Pearce both played the full 90 minutes of Leeds’ convincing League Cup win against Bolton on Tuesday night as Marcelo Bielsa’s side continued their 100 per cent record to the season. With the pathway from the academy to the senior side clear and distinct, this is a great time for Arnott to be on the Leeds staff.
