Leeds United want three more signings before the transfer window shuts as their focus turns to the loan market, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim the Championship giants are still looking to recruit a centre-back and have approached Everton over taking Matthew Pennington on a second consecutive season-long loan.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds are also trying to recruit further up the pitch, with plans to bring in both a central midfielder and a winger before the end of this month.

OPINION

Given that Leeds managing director Angus Kinnear has already claimed loan deals are more likely than permanent ones for his club, there is time to get in new signings. Unless Kinnear was deliberately throwing out a red herring during his interview earlier this week, it appears the planned reinforcements in the centre-back, central midfield and winger positions could all be temporary ones. That doesn’t mean Leeds won’t be busy today, however, as a last-ditch swoop for a permanent signing ahead of the 5pm EFL deadline could materialise if an opportunity presents itself. One mooted deal has been the capture of Albert Adomah from Aston Villa after they neglected to hand him a new contract with a year of his current one remaining. Were Leeds to add Adomah, Pennington and a midfielder of real quality – hopefully with Eunan O’Kane heading out of the exit door – a pretty mediocre window so far could become a very good one.
