Steven Gerrard is set to raid Liverpool for striker Dominic Solanke, according to the Mirror.

Their live transfer blog (5.31am) reports that Gerrard is confident that he can land the 20-year-old who has struggled at Anfield.

The striker, who moved from Chelsea last summer, played 27 games for Liverpool but failed to find his shooting boots until the last game of the season against Brighton.

The report claims that a permanent move is unlikely but that Liverpool could agree to a loan move.

Good move for Rangers?

Of all the players that Rangers have been linked with on loan, Solanke would be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. He might have struggled at Liverpool last season but he would absolutely smash the Scottish Premiership. The news that Gerrard is confident he can land him will get Rangers fans excited. Liverpool still obviously rate the youngster and are seemingly only interested in a loan move. That says it all about Solanke. It’s not just a good move for Rangers though. Solanke is depserately in need of a move to a club that will highlight his skills on a big stage, but give him the platform to score the goals he needs to boost his confidence. Ibrox is the perfect place.

Likely to happen?

Gerrard is said to be confident and he will still have the ear of a number of very important people in Liverpool. We think he’d be much better off at Rangers than a Championship side and he must have a very good chance of ending up at Ibrox. There will be fierce competition though. The deal doesn’t have to be completed today but Liverpool might want it done before the Premier League starts.
