Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has admitted he has been blown away by the performances of Pablo Hernandez, calling him one of the best players in his position he’s ever coached.

The former Swansea City man registered a goal and an assist in the Whites’ 3-0 win over Norwich on Saturday, helping send Bielsa’s team top of the table.

And the Spaniard’s Argentine boss was thrilled with his contribution: “He is one of the best players I have worked with in his position,” he said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“I think he is the player in our team who has had the biggest impact in our games so far. He can find a solution to a problem anywhere on the pitch and is always making the team more fluid with what he does.”

OPINION

Bielsa’s assertion that Hernandez is one of the best players in his position that he’s ever coached is quite a compliment indeed. Over a glittering coaching career the Argentine has managed the likes of Dimitri Payet and Alexis Sanchez who play a similar position to the Spaniard. To mention the Leeds man in the same breath as that calibre of player is a big statement. However, Hernandez has proved his quality so far this season, and has been key to Leeds’s run to the top of the Championship table. Things likely won’t remain as smooth sailing for both Bielsa and Hernandez, but it’s been a terrific start to the season so far for the long-suffering Whites. The challenge for the 33-year-old former Spain international is to keep his form up for the entirety of the campaign, and help fire his club to their long-awaited Premier League return.
