Matt Le Tissier believes Tottenham defender Danny Rose is probably the better footballer when compared with his teammate Ben Davies.

The Sky Sports pundit when creating the best possible starting eleven in his opinion from selecting just Spurs and Manchester United players delivered his verdict on Rose.

Tissier named Davies is his line-up ahead of Man United’s Luke Shaw but shared that he thought Rose was a better footballer and that injuries had simply limited his chances.

“You can’t pick Luke Shaw at the moment, although given a decent season he might challenge the Spurs left-backs,” wrote Le Tissier for Sky Sports.

“Because the consistent Ben Davies has held that spot for a while I have to go with him.

“Although Danny Rose is probably a better footballer on his day, injuries have limited his chances.”

OPINION

Rose, who earns £60,000-a-week currently (Source: Spotrac), hasn’t featured for Spurs this season so far with Davies clearly being Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred choice when it comes to the position of left-back. It would be no surprise if for that reason that the 28-year-old shortly departed Spurs as it’s unlikely that he will get regular football if he stays at the club. Rose has been struggling to feature under Pochettino for a while now as he managed to make only 10 league appearance last season. However it’s worth noting that the defender did manage to impress while with England in the World Cup in the summer. Yet despite looking good in Russia, it does seem that Rose isn’t a part of Pochettino’s long term plans for the club. While Le Tissier may rightly belief that Rose is the better footballer, Davies has proven himself to be the more reliable option and it’s easy to see why Pochettino chooses him ahead of the England international for that reason.
