Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood in the summer and that would suggest the club have learnt from their past mistakes.

The Sun reports that the Whites are interested in landing the 33-year-old, while Scottish giants Celtic and Premier League outfit Southampton are also keen in his signature.

It is understood that the shot-stopper may have played his last game for Wednesday, as he is out for the rest of the season with a fresh groin injury and his current contract expires in 2019.

Westwood has not featured for the Owls since December, but he is certainly still someone that would be a brilliant signing for Leeds and a huge improvement on the current options in goal ahead of next season.

He has 21 international caps for the Republic of Ireland and has amassed 270 Championship appearances during his established career.

His four-year spell with Wednesday has seen him develop immensely and he has been named in the Championship Team of the Year in that time.

The experienced goalkeeper is a brilliant shot-stopper and also useful in possession, something that would make him a big success at Elland Road.

Leeds’ reported interest in Westwood suggests that they are taking a much better approach into the transfer window ahead of the summer.

The Whites signed German Felix Wiedwald to be their number one option for this season in the last summer window, but his lack of experience in England has told and he has massively flopped.

Meanwhile, Andy Lonergan has been far too inconsistent and Leeds need an experienced figure to compete with emerging youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Westwood would be the ideal addition to the squad providing he recovers from his current injury problem and could easily slot into Paul Heckingbottom’s starting XI.
