Leeds United have confirmed that the squad will be heading on a two-match post-season tour of Myanmar, and fans have taken to Twitter to attack the club for the decision.
As announced on the club’s official website on Tuesday, Leeds will play two friendly matches against the Myanmar National League All-Stars andĀ the Myanmar national team in Yangon and Mandalay respectively.
The AYA Bank Tour is due to Aser, owner Andrea Radrizzani’s global investment company, being committed to partnerships within the region.
Alongside the two friendly matches, the Leeds United squad will run football clinics at academies in Yangon and Mandalay, which will see football and education sessions be given to children from local communities.
The squad will also visit local cultural sites in both cities.
Concerns have been raised about security on the trip, with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advising against any non-essential travel to four parts of the country amid political unrest and reports of ethnic cleansing agains the Rohingya people.
While both Yangon and Mandalay lie outside of those four regions, a Daily Mail report has suggested that several players have raised concerns about the trip.
Fans have now taken to Twitter to demolish the club for their decision to go ahead with the trip, with many condemning the club for choosing to tour in a country with a poor human rights record in recent months.

I'd be really interested to hear what part this country's atrocious human rights record played in the discussion about whether to go. I'm all for sport building bridges. But there? Now? When the state is supporting ethnic cleansing? Please do let us know the logic.

Shocked, disgusted and disappointed at #lufc decision to tour a country that has been systemically ethnic cleansing it's #rohingya population for years.

How very very bizarre. They have a terrible human rights record. First, a link up with Uber and now this. What is going on?

Complete and utter farce. MR PR strikes again, banners and flags but no sign of promotion. Probably sign someone from there in a few weeks and loan him out to a club in the Nepal Premier League
