Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Manchester City fringe star Eliaquim Mangala on a free transfer this summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper report that the 27-year-old has been talking to several clubs from the Premier League and overseas, with Wolves eyeing him up to aid their survival fight next season.

The Sun claim that Wolves will have no issue paying his £85,000-a-week wages, but Mangala will reportedly demand a hefty signing-on fee with no transfer fee to be paid.

Mangala’s agent is Wolves-associated Jorge Mendes, with the club said to have been eyeing up the 6ft 2in enforcer during their promotion tilt, with City demanding too much at the time.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes.

Mangala may not have hit the heights at City since his big-money move from Porto in 2014, but he would still be a brilliant acquisition for the newly-promoted club.

The big Frenchman has bags of pace for a centre-back, and with an extended run of first-team minutes may just find the form that had him tipped as the next big European defender.

And, for a free transfer, this one is a no-brainer for the Molineux club.

Likely to happen?

It looks like there are several clubs in for Mangala this summer, and Wolves will have their work cut out if they want to win that race.

However, with Jorge Mendes being his agent, that will surely increase their chances of snapping him up this summer.
