Leeds United are confident of agreeing a new deal with attacking midfielder Pablo Hernandez, according to a reliable journalist.

TeamTalk editor James Marshment posted on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the Whites were positive that the 32-year-old ace would put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road.

Marshment added that their main competition for the four-time Spain international was Birmingham City, who are managed by former Leeds boss Garry Monk, with the Blues looking to make the assist king their ‘main man’ next season.

Hernandez has been in brilliant form this season for Leeds, with the attacking midfielder netting nine goals and laying on 10 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.

OPINION

It would be a grave error for Leeds to let Hernandez leave this summer, with the club seeming to stall on offering him a new deal after the arrival of Paul Heckingbottom as boss. However, the right noises have begun to be made in recent weeks about a new contract, and it now looks as though the club have come to their senses. The fact that the 32-year-old has scored three goals and provided two assists in his last five matches may have something to do with that.
