Leeds must axe Ekuban

Leeds United centre-forward Caleb Ekuban was given a huge opportunity to impress against Reading on Saturday and he certainly wasted it.

The 23-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season and played a back-up role to German Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

However, Paul Heckingbottom decided to rotate at the weekend as the Whites drew 2-2 away at Reading in the Championship.

Ekuban lasted 77 minutes in the game before being withdrawn and once again proved that he shouldn’t have a long-term future at Elland Road.

The Ghanian has made 13 appearances this season and scored just one goal.

He puts himself about at the point of attack and has a decent work-rate, but ultimately he doesn’t have the predatory instincts in front of goal.

Leeds have been lacking a prolific goalscorer this season and is a crucial reason in why the Yorkshire giants are 11 points adrift of the play-off positions.

Ekuban has blown the few chances this season to lead the line and over the summer Heckingbottom should show him the exit doors.

The striker does have good pace, but looks out of place at this level due to his movement and his end product.

Leeds have been unable to replace Chris Wood in their side and need to fork out for a proper replacement in the summer.
