Aston Villa are lining up a move for Bristol City defender Joe Bryan, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Midlands giants have placed the 24-year-old on their wishlist for the summer.

It is understood that chief scout Tony Coton has cast his eye over the Championship full-back.

The report details that a potential move hinges on whether Villa obtain promotion as he may be too pricey if they remain in the Championship, but a return to the top flight could aid their pursuit.

Good move for Villa?

Bryan would definitely be a top signing for Steve Bruce’s side and looks destined to end up in the Premier League.

The Englishman is an attack-minded left-back that has shown he can be a real threat going forward, with five goals in 40 appearances this season.

He has been one of the standout players for Bristol City in the past couple of seasons and is a very consistent defender.

Villa currently have Neil Taylor as their first-choice left-back, but could do with an upgrade upon their return to the Premier League.

Likely to happen?

Villa will have the financial power to pursue Bryan if they get promoted as they chase automatic promotion this season.

However, the report states he could be too “pricey” if they remain in the division.
