Tom Pearce made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon – and Leeds United fans on Twitter were impressed with his performance.

The 19-year-old is a product of the club’s academy and was promoted to the first team to start at left-back.

He played 77 minutes in the Championship fixture at full-back and will hope to solve Paul Heckingbottom’s ongoing problem in that position.

Leeds did suffer a 2-1 defeat despite a promising debut by Pearce and the poor form of 2018 continues to plague the Yorkshire giants.

Substitute Jay-Roy Grot thought he had earned the hosts a point at Elland Road with his late leveller from a Atdhe Nuhiu’s opener, but the latter went on to score an injury-time winner.

The result means that Heckingbottom’s side remain 14th in the Championship table, but there once promising season has turned into a nightmare.

Leeds fans on social media were in discussion about Pearce’s first taste of senior football and believe he made the step up well.

There is definitely an opening for the position on a full-time basis as January signing Laurens De Bock has struggled to make it his own, while Gaetano Berardi and Vernon Anita are more make-shift options.
