Leeds United’s Under-23s goalkeeper Kamil Miazek has been promoted to the senior squad for training ahead of the Championship clash against Wolves on Wednesday.

Whites manager Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that the 21-year-old has been called up to the first team for training on Monday.

The Yorkshire giants host league leaders Wolves on Wednesday at Elland Road and there is uncertainty of their goalkeeper position.

Andy Lonergan has been ruled out with an injury, which means Felix Wiedwald, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Miazek have been training in the build up to their latest league fixture.

Miazek is yet to make a senior appearance for the Yorkshire giants since he joined earlier in the campaign and has been solely involved with their youth set-up.

“Lonners is unfit at at the minute so it’s Felix and Bailey we have had today and we have brought young Kamil up too. They are goalkeepers in the building,” Heckingbottom said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wolves.

OPINION

Miazek’s promotion to the senior squad is unlikely to lead to anything, but it will be a good eye opener for him and he will hope to impress senior boss Heckingbottom. Leeds do face a real dilemma ahead of their pivotal Championship fixture with Wolves and their slim hopes of a play-off place could be completely annihilated with another defeat. Wiedwald is the only senior option in goal given the injury absence of Longergan and it would be a risk to start one of his youngster in Peacock-Farrell or Miazek. Wiedwald will have to keep his place and is under huge scrutiny after his calamitous mistakes in recent games.
