Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has launched an incredible assault of the club’s players and feels there has been a lack of commitment this season.

The Whites were expected to compete for promotion this campaign and under Thomas Christiansen were top of the Championship in the early stages.

However, they have slowly dropped off the pace and under new manager Paul Heckingbottom they are now 13th, which is 11 points adrift of the play-off position.

The Yorkshire giants look set for another season in England’s second-tier and owner Radrizzani is desperate to return the club to its glory years in the top flight.

Radrizzani has been very outspoken in the past week by taking swipes at Championship leaders Wolves and their transfer policy.

He has now turned his attention to the Leeds first team and raged about the effort of some players this campaign.

“As a club we support them with everything. We did everything they wanted but we didn’t get back the commitment, the passion and the spirit. I don’t want players in my team with this behaviour. I hope they can learn,” he said on TalkSport radio, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post reported Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Radrizzani makes a good point that a lot of blame needs to come down to the players that have fallen short yet again this season, but perhaps the club’s hierarchy needs looking at as there was not enough investment in the summer. Leeds moved on three standout players in Chris Wood, Rob Green and Charlie Taylor, but in those key areas of the pitch they were not replaced. There was no chance they could compete once again for promotion with a weaker squad and they were massively overachieving in the opening months of the season. Heckingbottom needs to assess his squad in the remainder of the campaign and draw up a list of transfer targets that the club need to try deliver on in the summer.
