Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom should make the emphatic decision to axe midfielder Kalvin Phillips from the side.

The Whites host Bristol City on Sunday in the Championship in what is looking like a must-win fixture if they are to continue chasing the play-off spots.

They are currently eight points adrift of the top six and need to field their best XI to try beat promotion rivals Bristol City.

Phillips should be one of the casualties from the side that lost to Sheffield United 2-1 in Heckingbottom’s first game in charge and he should be dropped to the bench.

The 22-year-old put in an anonymous performance in that game and it would make sense for Ronaldo Vieira to replace him to add some energy to the midfield.

He failed to add much of an attacking threat during the contest and was also very weak in defending.

Phillips has been a regular in the side this term and looked in fine form early in the season.

However, the Whites academy graduate has seen his form desert him in the past couple of months and the most recent of his five goals this season was back in October.

The central midfielder should be axed to give Leeds a freshness in their side and fans have been crying out for some time to make Vieira a mainstay.
