Leeds United could wrap up the appointment of their new manager in the next 24 hours and it’s not set to be Steve McClaren, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that the Whites want to announce Thomas Christiansen’s successor imminently following his dismissal on Sunday.

It is understood that they are keen to make a quick appointment, but that English manager McClaren is not set to be the new man at Elland Road despite speculation.

The Sun previously reported that the 56-year-old was the early frontrunner to become the new Leeds boss after holding talks with chairman Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta after the team’s 4-1 loss to Cardiff on Saturday.

McClaren is a highly experienced manager, but the latest report has detailed he is not in the frame to take charge at the Yorkshire club.

OPINION

Leeds are set to name a swift successor to Christiansen and that is the most important thing right now if the club are to get back into the play-off picture. The Whites need to bring in a new manager as soon as possible and give him the best chance of turning the current poor form around. They should preferably go for someone with good experience in the Championship and hope they hit the ground running. Leeds need to make up a seven-point deficit in the remaining 16 league games if they are to end up in the top six at the end of the season.
