OPINION

Thomas Christiansen has been sacked as Leeds United manager after a winless run of seven games that has left the club seven points adrift of the play-offs.

The Dane spent seven-and-a-half months in the post after his appointment in mid June 2017, and leaves with the club sitting in 10th place in the Championship.

Christiansen’s early days at Leeds showed great promise, with the 44-year-old enjoying a brilliant start as Whites manager with five wins, two draws, 16 goals for and just four against in his first seven games.

That run took Leeds to the top of the Championship, but the club have gradually fallen away after two dismal runs that left them chasing a play-off spot.

The latest bad run, with Leeds now winless in seven in all competitions, was capped off at the weekend by a 4-1 home drubbing at the hands of promotion candidates Cardiff City.

The match saw a fourth Leeds player see red in the last seven matches, and left the club reeling from another poor display that makes promotion look a distant possibility.

This poor run of form has obviously left the club in a position where they felt they must let Christiansen go, but This is Futbol have picked out three reasons why the Leeds hierarchy were wrong in making this decision.
